NYSEG Restores Natural Gas Service to All Customers Impacted by Supply Outage - 9 am

Crews worked nonstop to restore service safely and efficiently more than 600 customers

BINGHAMTON, New York — January 19, 2023 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) has restored all customers after a natural gas supply outage in portions of Yates, Steuben, and Schuyler Counties on Monday. The Company’s crews and additional resources were called in to assist, working for more than two full days and through the night Monday and Tuesday to go to every customer impacted and executing safe restoration, turning gas service back on and relighting any gas appliances in person.

“We’re grateful to all the state and local municipal officials, including fire departments and state police, that were essential partners to this restoration,” said Patricia Nilsen, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E. “Without their partnership, the safe and timely resolution of this emergency would not have been possible.”

NYSEG natural gas customers in these areas experienced a gas outage due to a supplier issue. Restoration began Monday evening for the customers affected. Field personnel from NYSEG were assisted in this effort by resources from Berkshire Gas, Connecticut Natural Gas, National Fuel, National Grid, Rochester Gas and Electric, and Southern Connecticut Gas, in additional to contracted crews. Restoring service for all customers safely and as quickly as possible is the Company’s highest priority in emergencies like this, and all those who assisted in this restoration are appreciated.

In the event of a gas emergency, customers should contact NYSEG at 800.572.1121 or 911 from a safe location. Customers should ensure functionality of their CO detectors and replace batteries as needed. For natural gas safety tips and other important information, visit the NYSEG webpage.
