7:30AM - NYSEG Releases Daily Storm Restoration Work Plan
Restoration efforts make tremendous progress
ONEONTA, N.Y. — November 24, 2024, 7:30 a.m. — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) has released its restoration plan for work that will be completed on Sunday, November 24, 2024, as a result of severe storm impacts in its Binghamton, Oneonta, Liberty, and Ithaca divisions. The Company’s crews, once again working overnight amid challenging terrain, have been diligently addressing every remaining outage-causing incident.
NYSEG expects to restore the majority of its remaining impacted customers in those divisions by 11:00 p.m. today, November 24, 2024. As further damage information is received from today’s effort, the Company is updating the remaining estimated restoration times to reflect the remaining work to be completed.
Since the initial storm impact in the early morning hours on Friday, more than 116,000 customers have been affected. With the support of an additional 2,000 line workers, more than 90 percent of customers have had their power restored in less than 24 hours from peak outage reports. NYSEG has engaged well over 3,000 storm restoration personnel in the four hardest hit areas, with more than 2,000 line workers, 665 tree trimmers, and 310 damage assessors all contributing to the enormous restoration effort. Terrain difficult to access and significant snow accumulation continue to plague restoration efforts.
Currently, approximately 9,700 customers remain without power. In the Company’s Oneonta Division, which includes Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Greene, Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Otsego, Schoharie, and Ulster counties, outages total approximately 6,300. In the Liberty Division, which includes Orange, Sullivan, Delaware, and Ulster counties, there are about 2,300. The Binghamton Division, which includes Broome, Chenango, and Tioga counties, has approximately 940 outages. The Ithaca Division, which includes Cayuga, Chemung, Cortland, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga, and Tompkins counties, has about 114 outages still remaining.
Details of Sunday’s Work Plan Include
Crew Information: NYSEG has approximately 2,000 additional line workers in the affected areas fully engaged to expedite restoration efforts in all divisions.
Operational Expectations: Crews will be deployed making critical repairs as safely and quickly as possible. This will include setting poles to replace those damaged in the storm and completing repairs to both transmission and distribution lines.
