NYSEG Provides Grant to Local Business to Build Stronger Community

Labrador Lumber Company, Inc. received $57,667 to upgrade electrical infrastructure

Grant will aid economic growth in Tioga County

BINGHAMTON, NY — July 10, 2024 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) presented Labrador Lumber Company, Inc. with a $57,667 Agriculture Capital Investment Incentive Program Grant to help upgrade its electrical infrastructure. Upgrades will support economic growth in Tioga County by providing jobs and expanding local business operations.

“We understand the importance of investing in the communities in which our employees live and work,” said Joe Sayre, manager of Economic Development for NYSEG. “By supporting Labrador Lumber, we’re contributing to community development and economic prosperity.”

Electrical infrastructure upgrades will increase Labrador Lumber’s load capacity, allowing the company to revitalize a vacant industrial sawmill site and bring back finished milling to its operation. Due to this grant-funded project, Labrador Lumber will retain four jobs and create three to five new positions.

Labrador Lumber supplies the local community with quality wood products at competitive prices and utilizes a natural resource that puts dollars back into the community. Products are made with sustainable practices by using every part of the raw log with no waste.

“NYSEG made the growth and expansion of our business possible,” said Shannon Etienne, co-owner of Labrador Lumber. “Their involvement in the community through this grant is truly remarkable.”

NYSEG is committed to upgrading and modernizing electrical infrastructure to provide customers with the power they need, when they need it. Delivering safe and reliable energy is the Company’s top priority.

“We are happy to see NYSEG investing in Tioga County,” said Chairwoman Martha Sauerbrey. “Supporting local businesses in our community promotes a stronger and healthier economy.”

"Through the Agriculture Capital Investment Program, NYSEG is making important investments to help strengthen our local communities and economies,” said Senator Tom O’Mara. “We are grateful for this specific investment in Labrador Lumber Company which will help revitalize and expand the company's operations, as well as create and retain good jobs in Tioga County."

“Congratulations to Labrador Lumber on this significant milestone,” said Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend, PhD (R.C Big Flats). “I am grateful to NYSEG for their generous support and commitment to fostering local business. This partnership exemplifies how collaborative efforts can drive economic development, support our agricultural sector, and create new opportunities in our community. NYSEG’s grant enhances their already important role in our communities’ ongoing success.”

Through the Agriculture Capital Investment Incentive Program, NYSEG provides agricultural businesses with financial support toward electric-related infrastructure improvements on company-owned or customer-owned equipment up to $100,000. In many instances, the intent of this program is to help the agricultural industry by converting single phase to three phase power to grow businesses and install new technology.
