NYSEG Invests in Community by Providing $94,000 Grant to Local Business

NY Hay Sales received $94,000 to upgrade electrical infrastructure

Grant will aid economic growth in Madison County

BINGHAMTON, NY — June 28, 2024 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) presented NY Hay Sales with a $94,000 Agriculture Capital Investment Incentive Program grant to upgrade its electrical infrastructure. The grant will support economic growth in Madison County by providing jobs and expanding local business operations.

“We’re honored to support diverse and flourishing agricultural businesses in our service area,” said Patricia Nilsen, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E. “By supporting customers like Hay Sales, we are promoting a strong and healthy economy.”

Electrical infrastructure upgrades will increase NY Hay Sales’ load capacity, allowing the company to build a Hay Conversion and Drying Facility. This facility will process up to 10,000 tons of dry hay annually and convert large bales of hay to smaller bales, making transportation and distribution simpler. NY Hay Sales expects to create four new job positions due to the project.

NY Hay Sales is located on more than 1,800 acres in Earlville, NY, shipping hay up and down the east coast to farms and farm supply retailers.

“We’re grateful to NYSEG for this grant to help us build a new facility and expand our business,” said Ed Potrzeba Jr., owner and farmer of NY Hay Sales. “NYSEG’s support in our community benefits not only our business, but the entire area.”

NYSEG is committed to upgrading and modernizing electrical infrastructure to provide customers with the power they need, when they need it. Delivering safe and reliable electric and natural gas service is the Company’s top priority.

“I’m happy to hear NY Hay Sales is growing and has partnered with NYSEG to increase their capacity,” said Assemblyman Joe Angelino. “I have toured this facility and have seen the automation there which helps serve customers nationwide.”

"I am pleased that NY Hay Sales is receiving this grant,” said Senator Joseph Griffo. “This funding will help to enhance and expand the Earlville company."

Through the Agriculture Capital Investment Incentive Program, NYSEG provides agricultural businesses with financial support toward electric-related infrastructure improvements on company-owned or customer-owned equipment up to $100,000. In many instances, the intent of this program is to help the agricultural industry by converting single phase to three phase power to grow businesses and install new technology.
