NYSEG, IBEW Local 10 Sign New Labor Contract
Contract extends relationship between utility and union for 4 years
Agreement includes wage updates, incentives, and new policies for workforce
Binghamton, NY — August 6, 2024 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 10 have a new labor contract, ratified in a vote by union members on Monday, August 5. The new agreement is retroactive to June 30, 2024 and extends for four years. It includes updates to wages, incentives, and other policies for employees, and both parties agree that customers will benefit from the new contract. Local 10 represents approximately 1,600 NYSEG employees across operations, customer service, and professional positions.
“We believe that this agreement will stabilize our workforce for the next four years,” said Danny Addy, business manager, IBEW Local 10.
“Our relationship with IBEW Local 10 strengthens our company and is tremendously important to our operations,” said Patricia Nilsen, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E. “We have been working with IBEW leadership for several months to come to this agreement and are confident it serves the interests of both our union workforce and our customers.”
NYSEG employees serve more than 1.17 million customers from Lancaster to Plattsburgh, a territory covering 40 percent of Upstate New York. Operating from 13 divisions across the state, line workers maintain 34,258 miles of distribution lines and more than 4,500 miles of transmission lines in addition to 8,484 miles of gas distribution pipelines. Line and gas workers, customer service representatives, and many other field and service positions work around the clock when restoring power during and after a storm while always ensuring a safe work environment.
NYSEG was recognized with a national storm recovery award from the Edison Electrical Institute for the company’s response to the winter storm that affected the whole state over the Christmas holiday in 2022, and again in 2024 for response to storms in 2023.
