NYSEG Hosting Three Smart Meter Open Houses in Binghamton Area Starting This Week

Company to host informational open houses for customers to learn about the installation of smart meters


Part of NYSEG’s continued work to bring smart meters to all customers; reduce estimated billing 


 

BINGHAMTON, NY — August 8, 2023 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) customers in our Binghamton region, which includes Broome, and portions of Chenango, Cortland and Tioga counties, are having their meters upgraded to smart meters in the next year. The Company will host informational open houses to provide residents, business owners, and municipal officials with information about the upcoming installations, including the scope of work, timeline, and customer benefits. There is no formal presentation. Customers are invited to come at any time during the event and talk to project representatives about smart meter installations. 

The schedule for the open houses is below:

Thursday, August 10 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Northern Broome Senior Center, 12 Strongs Place, Whitney Point
Wednesday, August 30 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Countryside Community Center, 9 Sheldon Guile Blvd., Owego


 

Registration for the open houses is not required and all are welcome.

All residential and most business customers in NYSEG’s service areas will receive the new electric standard smart meter and/or natural gas module. An explanation of how this technology works will be provided. Informational displays and NYSEG representatives will be available to share more details about the installation process, answer questions and demonstrate how smart meters will provide customers with more convenience, control, and expanding choice in understanding and managing their energy use.

NYSEG expects to complete smart meter installations in 2024 for this area. Customers will receive information about their installation a few weeks before they begin in their neighborhood.
