NYSEG Hosting Smart Meter Open House in Lockport for Customers This Wednesday

NYSEG to host an informational open house for customers at Lockport Town Hall to learn about the ongoing installation of smart meters

More than one million smart meters already installed across New York State

LOCKPORT, N.Y. — March 24, 2025 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) customers in the Lockport Division, which includes Niagara and Orleans counties, can learn more about smart meters in an upcoming open house at Lockport Town Hall this Wednesday, March 26.

Company representatives will provide residents, business owners and municipal officials with information about installations, including the scope of work, timeline, and customer benefits.

There is no formal presentation. Customers are invited to come at any time during the event and talk to project representatives about smart meter installations. Registration for the open house is not required, and all are welcome. Informational displays and NYSEG representatives will be available to share more details about the installation process, answer questions, and demonstrate how smart meters provide benefits such as bills based on actual energy use, faster outage detection, and better understanding of energy usage.

Details of the upcoming events are below:

  • Date: Wednesday March 26, 2025
  • Time: 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
  • Address: Lockport Town Hall 6560 Dysinger Road Lockport, NY 14094
  • *Please note parking is available

Smart meters use two-way wireless communications to securely enable detailed hourly usage information and meter status. As a result, there will be no need for bill estimates or onsite visits, and customers will no longer need to read their own meter each month. Smart meters also allow NYSEG to pinpoint and respond to outages more quickly. Once a smart meter is installed, customers can view its Energy Manager tool to track individual energy use down to the hour. Energy Manager also provides customized recommendations to save energy and reduce costs.

All residential and most business customers in NYSEG service areas will receive the new electric smart meter and/or natural gas module. So far, more than one million customers across New York have received smart meters. NYSEG expects to complete smart meter installations in the Lockport division by the end of 2025. The Company will communicate with customers before installations begin in their neighborhood.
