NYSEG Helps Multi-Family Building Install EV Chargers

Arnot Realty received $144,000 from NYSEG’s EV Make-Ready Program

Program helps Ithaca achieve climate goals

ITHACA, NY — July 8, 2024 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) provided Arnot Realty with $144,000 to install 24 electric vehicle (EV) chargers at a multi-family building in Ithaca. NYSEG’s EV Make-Ready Program promotes sustainable living and supports Ithaca’s climate goals.

“The City of Ithaca is at the forefront of important nationwide discussions on carbon neutrality,” said NYSEG President and CEO Trish Nilsen. “Our EV Make-Ready Program provides businesses and municipalities with a simple and budget-friendly opportunity to support electric, zero-emission transportation. With this program, we’re contributing to Ithaca’s clean energy goals.”

Arnot Realty’s multi-family building serves as home to an environmentally conscious tenant base, including Cornell University graduate students, working professionals and retirees. The building is low-impact, complete with a green roof and fully electrified residential appliances.

“While we originally planned for just four EV chargers, after the project began we received research results showing dramatically increasing EV demand in our area over the next several years,” said Jeff Evans, director of Real Estate Development and Acquisitions at Arnot Realty. “NYSEG’s Make-Ready Program enabled us to cost-effectively install enough capacity to meet demand both today, and in the years to come.”

Ithaca’s goal is to reach carbon neutrality by 2030, and a large part of the plan to attain that goal is sustainable transportation. Giving people convenient access to EV charging stations promotes clean transportation.

"Energy sustainability is integral in our ongoing efforts to address climate change and affordability. We need all of our community stakeholders involved and I recognize NYSEG’s funding investment of supporting 24 electric vehicle chargers in Ithaca,” said State Senator Lea Webb. “This initiative is taking steps toward reducing the carbon footprint and creating a pathway for residents’ transition to electric vehicles. This EV Make-Ready Program exemplifies the power of collaboration in driving environmental progress and building more sustainable communities.”

With NYSEG’s EV Make-Ready Program, businesses and municipalities can quickly install EV charging stations with up to 100 percent reimbursement of costs for the electrical improvements needed to support the charging.
