NYSEG Employees Spread Holiday Spirit Through Annual Toy Drive
Company partners with the Family & Children’s Society of Broome County to provide gifts to children who may otherwise go without during the holidays
Binghamton, N.Y. — December 18, 2020 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) employees in the Binghamton area continued their holiday gift giving tradition again this year, adapting to COVID restrictions and while many were working from home.
“We want to do our part to make sure that every child has a gift to open this holiday season,” said Lori Cole, a Manager of Regulatory & Tariffs at NYSEG, who is also a member of the Binghamton Area employee ‘Booster Team.’
For more than 30 years, NYSEG employees have been collecting toys to give to children throughout the community around the holidays. This year, gifts were collected for 73 children ranging in age from one month to 17 years old. The gift requests were organized through the Family and Children’s Society of Broome County.
The Booster Team has traditionally set up holiday trees with tags for each child’s wish list. Employees would take tags, purchase the item, and return the wrapped gifts to the office. With many employees working from home, employees got creative and utilized technology to promote the toy drive and organize the tags.
“Despite challenges related to Coronavirus, we’re glad we were able to collect so many gifts for these children,” said Cole. “We know a lot of families have been impacted by the pandemic and the holidays might be challenging for some families. We also want them to know they are cared for by the NYSEG team and we were happy to do our part to spread some holiday joy.”
The gifts were delivered to the Family and Children’s Society of Broome County on Monday, before making their way to homes across the area, where they will bring smiles to many faces on Christmas morning.
