NYSEG Converts Town of Seneca Falls’ Street Lights to LED

New lights to use approximately 50 percent less energy
SENECA FALLS, NY — November 23, 2021 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and the town of Seneca Falls recently collaborated to bring new LED lighting systems to the town’s street lights. Crews began work in April 2021 to convert more than 1,100 street lights to the LED systems, which use approximately 50 percent less energy. These conversions are part of a broader effort by NYSEG to work with local municipalities to replace older “cobra head” style lighting to newer and more energy efficient LED systems.
“On behalf of the people of Seneca Falls, we are extremely excited about the recent LED conversion that has transpired throughout our community,” said Michael J. Ferrara, Seneca Falls town supervisor. “The new lights are much brighter and provide more coverage throughout our streets. Our experience with NYSEG was extremely positive and professional. Their assistance throughout the project was commendable.”
The conversion project in the town of Seneca Falls brings potential energy savings to the municipality as well as several other benefits including increased efficiency, streetscape modernization and more direct lighting to the roadways. The project included work on 146 streets to upgrade all NYSEG-owned cobra head street lights within town limits.
“We are so pleased to bring our LED street lights to the community and its residents,” said Nael Amireh, key account manager at NYSEG. “The project could not have gone more smoothly thanks to the partnership with the Town of Seneca Falls. We are extremely appreciative of their collaboration to provide improved safety and reliability for all who live and work here.”
Overall, NYSEG has converted a total of approximately 47,700 cobra head street lights to efficient LED lights in more than 297 municipalities in its service area across New York state as part of the conversion program.
