NYSEG completes Yates County Main Project
Project provides affordable energy solution to the newly constructed Yates County Highway Department Building
PENN YAN, N.Y. — February 11, 2025 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) completed its Yates County Gas Main Project, providing natural gas service to the newly constructed Yates County Highway Department facility, located at 939 NY-14A in Penn Yan.
“This work was not possible without the efforts of the Yates County Legislature and our dedicated crew who worked quickly on this project,” said Patricia Nilsen, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E. “We remain committed to providing affordable energy solutions to Yates County and beyond for years to come.”
Yates County requested the main as part of the building’s construction in 2023. In response to this request, NYSEG installed main along Havens Corners Road in the Town of Benton to serve the highway department.
"We appreciate the leadership of the Yates County Legislature and the diligent efforts of NYSEG's work crew to complete this important extension as quickly as possible,” said New York State Senator Tom O’Mara. “It was a critical project for the operation of the new Highway Department facility and it will also help provide an affordable and reliable energy supply for customers moving forward."
Permission for this project was granted by the New York State Public Service Commission and completed through coordination with customers and landowners along the route, careful design by the NYSEG Geneva Gas design team, and excellent execution from NYSEG’s contractor, DDS Utilities, and NYSEG’s gas construction team.
