8:30 pm: NYSEG Announces Estimated Time of Restoration

Company has more than 750 field personnel working to restore power to customers

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — December 18, 2023, 8:30 pm — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) crews continue to make significant progress to restore service to the 1,276 customers who remain without power in the company’s Brewster division, which includes Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester counties. NYSEG has announced that it expects to restore the majority of its customers by 11 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, December 19. The company encourages customers to check online for their individual estimated times of restoration which will be updated as efforts continue.

Today’s severe winds and heavy rain caused power outages impacting more than 21,000 NYSEG customers in its Brewster division. NYSEG onboarded additional support throughout the day and now has more than 750 field service personnel engaged in restoration efforts throughout the division. The company will have crews working into the evening and overnight. Reports from the field indicate significant damage across the region, particularly throughout Westchester and Putnam counties. Today, crews focused on clearing storm debris, setting new poles to replace those damaged by falling trees and fixing circuits that restored power to many impacted customers.

The company urges customers to remain away from storm debris as it may contain downed wires or other damaged equipment. All downed wires should be assumed as energized and be reported by calling NYSEG’s emergency line at 1.800.572.1131 or contacting 911.

NYSEG will continue to provide updates throughout the event to the general public on the company’s social media channels (Facebook and X). The company also offers customers the following reminders to stay safe if power outages do occur.
