NYSEG and Cornell Partner to Help Customers Manage Energy Use and Reduce Energy Bills
Pilot app will help NYSEG better serve customers
Part of the Company’s efforts to continue customer service improvements
ITHACA, NY — March 9, 2023 — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) is teaming up with Cornell University on an app to improve the customer experience. The program, currently in its pilot phase, was created to help customers manage their energy use.
“We’ll be able to recommend and provide guidance to improve energy consumption,” said Enrique Bosch, director of Innovation of AVANGRID. “Our goal is to learn from this program and see how we can better serve our customers.”
Cornell worked with AVANGRID, NYSEG’s parent company, on a pilot program to create a subscription-based alternative to traditional billing. It focuses on behavior patterns to help customers moderate their energy usage which can reduce their energy bills. There are five subscription plans customers can choose from, based on their prior consumption habits. Participants can manage their energy usage, based on their needs, ultimately impacting their bills.
“We are trying to solve urgent, real-world problems,” said Madhur Srivastava, assistant research professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Cornell University. “We want to be able to provide customers with the best times to do their laundry or charge their electric car.”
The pilot phase will last for one year. The next phase will focus on rolling out the technology to a wider community. Customers can sign up for the program here: https://signalsciencelab.com/subscription-based-pricing/
