6:45 PM - NYSEG Continues Efforts to Reduce Outages

Crews continue to make steady progress in restoring service

ONEONTA, N.Y. — November 23, 2024, 6:45 p.m. — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) crews, with the support of an additional 2,000 temporary line workers, are continuing their consistent efforts to restore power to customers in the most heavily affected divisions of Binghamton, Oneonta, Liberty, and Ithaca. Since the initial storm impact in the early morning hours yesterday, more than 116,000 customers have been impacted. Despite challenging conditions and treacherous travel, in less than 24 hours from the peak outages, more than 80 perecent of customers have had their power restored. NYSEG has engaged well over 3,000 storm restoration personnel in the four hardest hit areas, with more than 2,000 line workers, 665 tree trimmers, and 310 damage assessors all contributing to the enormous restoration effort. Difficult terrain and significant snow accumulation continue to plague restoration efforts.

NYSEG expects to restore the majority of its remaining impacted customers in those divisions by 11 p.m. tomorrow, November, 24, 2024. As further damage information is received from today’s effort, the Company is updating the remaining estimated restoration times to reflect the remaining work to be completed.

Currently, approximately 16,000 customers remain without power. In the Company’s Oneonta Division, which includes parts of Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Greene, Herkimer, Lewis, Madision, Oneida, Otsego, Schoharie, and Ulster counties, outages total approximately 9,200. In the Liberty Division, which includes portions of Orange, Sullivan, Delaware, and Ulster counties, there are about 3,300. The Binghamton Division, which includes parts of Broome, Chenango and Tioga counties, has approximately 1,900 outages while the Ithaca Division, which includes portions of Cayuga, Chemung, Cortland, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga and Tompkins counties, has about 870 outages still remaining.

Our storm response teams continue to repair damage, make any downed wires safe, clear fallen tree debris, and restore power in off road, remote, rough terrain. The Company is also coordinating response efforts with state and local emergency management authorities. Crews will not stop working until every customer has their power restored.
