Restoration efforts continue for heavily impacted divisions

ONEONTA, NY — November 23, 2024, 10:15 a.m. — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) has released its restoration plan for work that will be completed on Saturday, November 23, 2024 following severe storm impacts in its Binghamton, Oneonta, Liberty and Ithaca divisions. The Company’s crews, working overnight amid closed roads, fallen trees, and wet, heavy snow have been assigned to work every remaining outage-causing incident. They continue to assess and repair damage, and restoration estimates will be posted as soon as possible for areas still without power.

Currently, approximately 33,000 customers remain without power. In the Company’s Oneonta Division, which includes Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Greene, Herkimer, Lewis, Madision, Oneida, Otsego, Schoharie, and Ulster counties, outages total approximately 17,500. In the Libery Division, which includes Orange, Sullivan, Delaware, and Ulster counties, there are about 7,100. The Binghamton Division, which includes Broome, Chenango and Tioga counties, has approximately 4,700 outages. The Ithaca Division, which includes Cayuga, Chemung, Cortland, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga and Tompkins counties, has about 3,200 outages still remaining.

Details of Saturday’s Work Plan Include

Crew Information: NYSEG has approximately 700 additional line workers in the affected areas fully engaged to expedite restoration efforts in all divisions.

Operational Expectations: Crews will be deployed throughout the service territory, making critical repairs as safely and quickly as possible. This will include setting poles to replace those damaged in the storm and completing repairs to both transmission and distribution lines. Additionally, crews will use the daylight hours to complete further damage assessment of the most heavily impacted areas.

Our storm response teams are working to assess the damage, make any downed wires safe, clear fallen tree debris from the roads, and restore power. The company is also coordinating response efforts with state and local emergency management authorities. Our crews will not stop working until every customer has their power restored.

For the safety of our crews and the public, the company reminds customers to please stay away from downed wires and do not approach crews.
NYSEG reminds impacted customers there are several warming stations available to help bridge the gap between their outages and restoration:

  • The UHS Delaware Valley Hospital, which will remain open as long as necessary. 1 Titus Place, Walton.
  • The Downsville Fire Department is open 24 hours. 15166 State Highway 30, Downsville.
  • Conesville Fire House, which is open until further notice. 1292 State Route 990V, Conesville.

NYSEG urges customers to avoid storm debris as it may contain downed wires or other damaged equipment. Customers should assume all downed wires are energized and dangerous and should be reported by calling NYSEG’s emergency line at 800.572.1131 or contacting 911.

NYSEG will continue to provide updates throughout the event on the company’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and X). The Company also offers customers the following reminders to stay safe when power outages occur.
