NYSEG Converts Nearly 1,000 Street Lights in the Village of Monticello to LEDs

New lights use approximately 50 percent less energy, provide cost savings

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — October 14, 2020 — NYSEG recently completed the conversion of 959 street lights to new LED lighting systems in the Village of Monticello. The conversion project comes at the request of the Village of Monticello officials and is part of a broader effort by NYSEG to replace older “cobra head” style lighting to newer and more energy efficient LED systems which use approximately 50 percent less energy and provide other benefits to village residents.

“These conversion projects happening across the region will increase reliability, improve efficiency, and provide potential cost savings for municipalities,” said Chris Argetsinger, NYSEG Customer Program and Products Manager. “We’re grateful for the collaboration with the Village of Monticello on this project and are excited to bring these new systems to the residents.”

The conversion project in Monticello brings potential energy savings to the municipality as well as several other benefits including increased efficiency, streetscape modernization and more direct lighting to the roadways. This conversion helps municipalities reduce their carbon footprint while saving money on energy costs. In total, the company has converted approximately 30,000 traditional cobra head street lights to more efficient LED lights in its service area across New York state.

NYSEG works with municipalities across the state to bring the benefits of this energy efficient program to customers. The cooperation of dedicated municipal officials, like those in Monticello, is paramount to project success and is appreciated by the company.
