NYSEG Restoration Efforts Continue Following Second Nor’easter
BREWSTER, NEW YORK — March 8, 2018, 11:30 a.m. — NYSEG, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), crews and contractors continue restoration work as the second Nor’easter clears the area. The second storm dumped another 10-16 inches of heavy, wet snow causing additional damage to the electrical system. As of 11 a.m., approximately 8,300 customers are without power from last week’s storm in addition to the 30,300 who are now without power from this latest wintery blast. Crews worked overnight on emergency safety issues as they continue to clear additional downed wires and other hazards from roads, and are assessing the damage from the new storm in order to proceed safely in their efforts to restore service. The State of New York, counties and towns continue to offer and provide support both in resources and critical information that has impacted their respective areas. Governor Cuomo has made the National Guard and all State agencies available to us, and we are working with the State, counties and towns to deploy National Guard assistance in this restoration effort.
“These back-to-back storms have resulted in more substantial damage, but we will not stop working for our customers who are depending on us to get their power back on,” said Carl A. Taylor, President and CEO of NYSEG. “The second storm is a setback, but it will not lessen our resolve to push forward to make sure our communities and customers are safe and power is restored as quickly as possible.”
