>> NYSEG urges customers to stay away from downed power lines – even lines that appear dead can be deadly. NYSEG customers should call 1.800.572.1131 to report downed power lines or other hazardous situations.

>> Emergency generators can be dangerous. Carefully read, understand and follow manufacturer’s instructions when operating an emergency generator. Never run emergency generators indoors; operate them only outdoors in well-ventilated areas and away from windows and doors.

>> The next release will be distributed at 9 p.m.  today.

Clifton Park, NY, February 20, 2011 (4 p.m.) – NYSEG crews continue to repair  damage to the company’s electricity delivery system from the severe winds  that impacted much of the company’s 10,000-square-mile, 25-county East Region yesterday and last night.  The strong winds caused hundreds of downed wires and numerous broken poles.

NYSEG customers should call 1.800.572.1131 to report downed wires or other hazardous conditions.

Here is a wrap up of power interruptions in the hardest hit areas:

Brewster Division (All or parts of Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties)
 -  500 customers currently without power. 
Liberty Division (All or parts of Delaware, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties)
 -  1,400 customers currently without power. 
NYSEG crews, assisted by additional contract crews who were brought in to assist in restoration efforts ,will be restoring service to these customers throughout the day.  It is expected that all Brewster Division customers will have their power restored by the end of  today.  Most Liberty Division customers will have their power restored today, although some customers may not have their power restored until early Monday afternoon.
