Brewster, NY, October 1, 2010 (9 p.m.) – NYSEG crews from across the state along with crews from Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) and contractors  working around the clock have restored power to more than 33,000 customers who lost service as a result of the torrential rain and strong winds associated with Tropical Storm Nicole.  The severe weather  caused widespread power outages across NYSEG’s service area in southern Dutchess, Putnam and northern Westchester counties.  As of 9 p.m., less than 300 customers remain without power. Restoration efforts will continue until all customers have had their power restored.  NYSEG expects that all customers will have their power restored by Saturday afternoon.

“The high winds and heavy rain caused considerable damage to our system,” said Ted Anderson, NYSEG’s regional operations manager. “Our local crews responded immediately, and with assistance from  other NYSEG, RG&E and contract crews from across the state we were able to restore power as quickly as possible. We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding while we went about our work, and we would also like to thank the highway departments, volunteer firefighters and everyone else who assisted in this restoration effort.”
