NYSEG HAS RESTORED SERVICE TO MORE THAN 75% OF CUSTOMERS WHO LOST POWER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mechanicville, NY, December 16, 2008 (11 a.m.) – The 238 line and tree crews along with dozens of support personnel working in NYSEG’s Mechanicville Division have passed the 75% milestone in restoring service that was disrupted as a result of the December 11-12 ice storm that severely damage the company’s electricity delivery system. The peak number of customers who lost service as a result of the storm was approximately 34,000; approximately 7,900 customers are currently without power.

NYSEG expects to restore service to all customers by noon on Thursday.

“Because of the severity of the damage, restoring power has been a tremendous challenge for us,” said Mark Leta, NYSEG’s manager - regional operations. “However, for as big as the challenge has been, our work would have been even more difficult had it not been for the cooperation and assistance of law enforcement, fire and emergency service personnel, elected officials and community leaders, highway department crews, the Red Cross, the media and many others. And our customers have been great.”
